ST Joseph's primary schools at Merriwa and Denman joined forces on May 1 to celebrate St Joseph The Worker's Feast Day and participate in a combined cross-country carnival.

The carnival gave students the experience of running with students from a different school on a track that was challenging to competitors.

New friendships were made and the day finished with an impromptu game of soccer on the showground.

St Joseph's Merriwa sports co-ordinator Miss Claire Skehan said there were lots of happy faces as people enjoyed meeting up.

She enjoyed seeing the two schools competing because it encouraged them to push themselves.

Before the cross-country event began both schools came together for a liturgy to celebrate St Joseph's Day.
